Immediate Life Support Training (ILS)

This course is certified by the Resuscitation Council (UK) and teaches the recognition and treatment of the deteriorating patient using the ABCDE (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure) approach. Immediate Life Support knowledge and skills will enable first responders to recognise and start treatment in patients at risk of deterioration and cardiac arrest.

Suitable for: Doctors, Medical Students, Nurses, Nursing Students, Midwives, and Healthcare Providers such as Dentists, Paramedics and Ambulance Technicians.

Aim

To provide high quality, scientific knowledge and skills in the management of the deteriorating patient and apply current resuscitation guidelines to common events in clinical practice.

Objectives

  • Recognise and treat the deteriorating patient using the ABCDE approach;
  • Identify the causes and promote the prevention of cardiopulmonary arrest;
  • Undertake the skills of quality CPR and defibrillation (manual and /or AED) and simple airway manoeuvres;
  • Utilise non-technical skills to facilitate team leadership and effective team membership.

Paediatric Immediate Life Support Training

At the end of the course delegates should be able to:

  • Recognise the patient at risk of cardiopulmonary arrest, and correctly utilise the ABCDE approach when treating the deteriorating patient
  • Demonstrate simple airway management and safe defibrillation (manual and/or AED), in order to safely manage and treat patients in cardiac arrest
  • Demonstrate the use of the correct skills to participate as part of an effective team
